Community Youth Engagement: Youth Engagement

Youth engagement  The solution is to ensure that strategies developed to engage young people should seek to empower young women and young men as partners in achieving gender equality. We know addressing all of the challenges girls and boys face will not be done in one day. But takes heart, grit, and a commitment to create change day in and day out and one day we shall win.

Feeding the Homeless You (Street Families)

At Afrikea, we believe that true impact comes from the difference we make in the lives of others. It’s not just about living—it’s about creating meaningful change. That’s why we are committed to supporting vulnerable communities through sustainable, long-term initiatives. One of our key projects involves supporting a street-connected family of 30 and a local children’s home. In collaboration with generous partners, including local businesses, we ensure they receive essential resources. Every month, we provide meal shopping for the children’s home, and for the street family, we offer daily meals—making this an ongoing commitment to transforming lives. Join us in making a lasting impact. Your support helps us continue these vital efforts and extend our reach to even more communities in need.

Ending Period Poverty

At Afrikea, we recognize that menstruation is not just a personal experience—it’s a human rights, public health, and development issue. Unfortunately, due to deep-rooted social taboos and gender stereotypes, many women and girls face menstruation with shame and without access to essential resources for safe menstrual health management. To break this cycle of stigma and inequity, we launched a three-month pilot initiative, “Tree Seedling and Pad Drive for Girls,” which combined menstrual health support with environmental sustainability. Through this grassroots dialogue and donation program, we reached over 8,522 girls, persons with disabilities, and teenage mothers in pastoralist communities across Kajiado, Marsabit, Isiolo, Narok, and Samburu counties. Our initiative also extended to schools, where we conducted mentorship programs and distributed dignity kits to ensure that girls have the knowledge and resources needed to manage their menstrual health with confidence and dignity. At Afrikea, we are committed to ensuring that no girl misses out on education or opportunities due to period poverty. Join us in driving change and making menstrual equity a reality.

International Peace Day 2023

At Afrikea, we believe that peace begins with dialogue, understanding, and collective action. In commemoration of International Peace Day 2023, we organized a transformative community dialogue in collaboration with the Kenya National Commission for UNESCO, UNESCO Youth Forum, UNICAF, Amali Organization, and Pastoralist Child Foundation, which hosted the event in Samburu County. Our primary focus was engaging the residents of Kiltamny, Samburu County, in discussions on fostering peace within their communities. Given the region’s long dry seasons and resulting resource-based conflicts, we emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence, particularly among pastoralist groups. During our visit, we also conducted interactive sessions with students at Uaso Girls and Uaso Boys schools, where we highlighted key topics such as:The importance of mental healthThe dangers of drug and substance abuseThe value of education in breaking cycles of conflict Through these workshops, we empowered young people to take an active role in community peacebuilding efforts, reinforcing the significance of harmony, effective communication, and cross-cultural understanding at individual, family, and community levels. At Afrikea, we remain committed to initiatives that promote peace and social cohesion. Join us in making a lasting impact.

Child Protection School Mentorship

At Afrikea, we believe that education is the key to breaking cycles of poverty and inequality. With the support of dedicated friends and partners, we launched a mentorship program in schools across Kenya, focusing on feeding programs, food donations, and providing three months’ worth of sanitary towels to girls in underserved communities. Many of these schools are located in slum areas where children face gender-based violence (GBV), sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), and drug abuse. By investing in their education and well-being, we are not only empowering them with knowledge and resources but also creating a pathway to a brighter and more equitable future. Join us in making a difference. Together, we can ensure that every child, regardless of their background, has access to education, mentorship, and a safe learning environment.

Anti FGM Campaign: Sierra Leone Ending Harmful Practices.

Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is a harmful practice and a violation of human rights, denying women and girls their right to physical integrity, freedom from injury, and protection from coercion. Despite global efforts to eradicate FGM, over 200 million girls and women in more than 30 countries have undergone the practice. Alarmingly, 4 million girls are at risk each year, a number projected to rise to 68 million by 2030 due to population growth in high-prevalence regions. While progress has been made in some countries, the decline in FGM prevalence remains slow and uneven. Recognizing the urgent need for action, UNFPA and UNICEF have been at the forefront of a global movement to accelerate the elimination of FGM. Through the Joint Program to Eliminate FGM, these organizations have empowered youth advocates, civil society groups, and policymakers to drive systemic change. At Afrikea, we stand in solidarity with this movement, advocating for policy change, community awareness, and youth-led initiatives to end FGM. Together, we can protect the rights, dignity, and future of girls worldwide. Join us in taking action to create a world free from FGM.
