Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is a harmful practice and a violation of human rights, denying women and girls their right to physical integrity, freedom from injury, and protection from coercion. Despite global efforts to eradicate FGM, over 200 million girls and women in more than 30 countries have undergone the practice. Alarmingly, 4 million girls are at risk each year, a number projected to rise to 68 million by 2030 due to population growth in high-prevalence regions.
While progress has been made in some countries, the decline in FGM prevalence remains slow and uneven. Recognizing the urgent need for action, UNFPA and UNICEF have been at the forefront of a global movement to accelerate the elimination of FGM. Through the Joint Program to Eliminate FGM, these organizations have empowered youth advocates, civil society groups, and policymakers to drive systemic change.
At Afrikea, we stand in solidarity with this movement, advocating for policy change, community awareness, and youth-led initiatives to end FGM. Together, we can protect the rights, dignity, and future of girls worldwide. Join us in taking action to create a world free from FGM.
