Ending Period Poverty

At Afrikea, we recognize that menstruation is not just a personal experience—it’s a human rights, public health, and development issue. Unfortunately, due to deep-rooted social taboos and gender stereotypes, many women and girls face menstruation with shame and without access to essential resources for safe menstrual health management.

To break this cycle of stigma and inequity, we launched a three-month pilot initiative, “Tree Seedling and Pad Drive for Girls,” which combined menstrual health support with environmental sustainability. Through this grassroots dialogue and donation program, we reached over 8,522 girls, persons with disabilities, and teenage mothers in pastoralist communities across Kajiado, Marsabit, Isiolo, Narok, and Samburu counties.

Our initiative also extended to schools, where we conducted mentorship programs and distributed dignity kits to ensure that girls have the knowledge and resources needed to manage their menstrual health with confidence and dignity.

At Afrikea, we are committed to ensuring that no girl misses out on education or opportunities due to period poverty. Join us in driving change and making menstrual equity a reality.
